Fazal Bahardeen setup CrescentRating in 2008 to help the hospitality industry understand the needs and better cater to the Muslim travelers. A year later, he launched the world’s first rating system to rate travel services for their Muslim friendliness. It has now become the globally recognized independent standard for the Muslim travel market.
CrescentRating is now the world’s leading authority on Halal Travel, providing insights, research, consultancy, training & rating services to every sector of the tourism industry from Government bodies to hotels.
The “Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI)” is the premier resource for the industry.
In 2014, CrescentRating acquired and re-launched HalalTrip with a vision to become the trusted trip advisor for Muslim travelers. It has been cited as one of the “50 Most Innovative Global Muslim Startups” and the “11 most innovative Asian Muslim Startups” in 2015. In 2015, he also launched the “Muslim Travel Warehouse”, the world’s first B2B platform for Muslim-friendly tour packages.
He was listed among the 20 “Life Power List 2016” of Singapore’s Straits Times (Singapore leading English Daily), recognized as one the “Top 50 Leaders of the Islamic Economy” by “Islamica 500” in 2015 and 2016 as well as one of the “70 Digital Influencers who has Reshaped how Muslims in the 21st Century Access, Practice & Express their Faith” in 2016.
Fazal completed the Executive Program from Stanford University & NUS, Strategic Leadership Development Program from Ashridge Management School and International Management in Telecoms Industry from London Business School. He has an International Masters in Management from Management School of Lyon, Master’s Degree in Computer Applications from Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications and Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from International Islamic University of Malaysia.
